The first trimester of pregnancy is the most important part of pregnancy for the mother and of course the baby. It is the folic acid supports the brain development of the baby and it prevents neural tube defects, an abnormal or malformation of brain and the spinal cord. A good supplementation of folic acid during pregnancy is very crucial to avoid this. The best sources of folic acid are green leafy vegetables, citrus fruits, beans and peas.
· Calcium- is also very important during the first trimester of pregnancy. At the first trimester the formation of bone also occurs. So to give the baby a strong bone and teeth-calcium should be included in the diet. Calcium is also needed for good circulation, for the strong muscles as well as for the nervous system. The mother should take 1000 milligrams of calcium every day. The best source of calcium is milk and other dairy products.
· Protein- this nutrient is also essential to support the growing baby. The mother needs 71 grams of protein everyday to nourish the developing baby. The best sources for protein are meat, chicken, eggs, fish, tofu, beans and milk.
· Iron- is also needed during the first term of pregnancy. During pregnancy the iron need actually doubles to supplement both the mother and the baby. Not getting enough iron will result to fatigue and low immunity to infections. The mother needs 27 milligrams of iron to ensure the baby as well the mother is getting enough iron. The best source of iron is red meat, fish and chicken.
Whatever food intake during the time of pregnancy it is both the mother and the baby is benefiting in it. The mother should focus on getting the proper nutrients and right food and avoid whatever that is not healthy and nutritious.
